Dental Arch Changes with Two Different Trans-Palatal Arch

Background: Rapid maxillary expansion (RME) is a dentofacial orthopedic treatment often used to treat patients with narrow palate and transverse growth deficiency. Introduction: This leads correction of posterior dental crossbites, coordination the upper lower arches gaining arch perimeter in tooth size/arch size discrepancies. To stabilize results obtained RME limit or avoid relapse, use Transpalatal Arch (TPA) would be recommended. Objectives: The aim this study evaluate short-term changes treated followed by TPA without palatal arms. Materials Methods: 30 patients, 16 females 14 males (mean age 9.7 yrs ranging between 9 12), were Hyrax-type expander. After period, it was removed one two different types used. 0.036-inch stainless steel wire loop directed mesially middle, maintained original design (TPA), second presented arms extended canines (TPAa). Dental casts collected for each patient step; before (T0), after (T1) TPAa (T2). assess differences phases, three-dimensional (3D) make more predictable measurements compared caliper that intra-examiner inter-examiner errors. Results: In group, value at end retention period showed no statistical significance. Instead same suggested reduction almost all diameters. Statistically significant found TPA. Conclusion: Results confirm hypothesis can allow better maintain dimensions.
